Shakespeare’s original play has historically been known as one of the most despairing plays in several decades, with the central characters' zealous devotion for one another ending up in their choice to commit suicide. Using Shakespeare and his wife, Hathaway, as narrators in the new musical itself however, Broadway's brand-new play, & Juliet, tweaks the previous story by allowing Juliet to change her own fate in Romeo's suicide and empowering her to finally make her own decisions. Wishing to find new experiences with Juliet's equally-committed friends, the cast is opened up to a new way of life beyond what Juliet and her friends were ready for once they move to Paris.
